I do not consent

The election is over, and the new president is Donald Trump. It took me a while to accept that as the new reality, but there is no denying the truth. As hard as the truth may be to swallow, the new president is Donald Trump. I say that a few times daily to make it more of a reality and I don’t allow myself the ability to deny that fact. Denial of the truth leads to thing occurring that can cause pain, and there will be enough pain the next 4 years. While I try to be optimistic, again, the truth forces me to recognize a few things. I have always been taught that when someone shows you, to your face, what kind of person they are, believe them. Don’t count on change, or they “didn’t really mean it”, or they thing something different at the time. They should you what they are, and you chose to ignore or deny it. I don’t deny what trump is. He is a racist. He has shown that many times. He is xenophobic. He has shown that many times. He is homophobic, he has shown that many times. He is sexist. He has shown that many times. I choose to take him at his words and actions, and will not deny what he has shown me to my face on multiple occasions. People can deny or choose whatever they want, but I believe what people tell me.

To that extent, I hear a lot of the sentiment that we need to come together, give him a chance, and we have to do what is good for the country. I call bullshit. What is good for the country is to not let this man and this man’s agenda occur. You see, it is more than working with this man, it is people that will directly feel the effects of what he does. I went to a vigil this weekend of a man who presumably was killed maybe because he was black and gay. We have seen multiple instances of violence since the election, and as much as we can’t blame Trump directly, we can say that he has created the climate that allows for this to happen, just as Obama created a climate of peace. As am American, I would be doing a disservice to allow his agenda to go forward. I would be a disservice to my country to allow his racist agenda concerning Hispanics to continue. I would be less than American to allow the isolationist policies go into effect. It would be inhumane to allow people to die and face violence is a country that he has stirred up the hate to the point that people feel ok expressing their racist ideas. Don’t tell me to get over it. This is not about an election. I got over other republicans that were elected. While I may disagree with them, I do not think are dangerous or put people’s lives in danger. This person does just that. Know what you mean by “get over it”, and “work with him”. I will not do what is against my nature, and those that cast a vote for a man as dangerous as this man will surely regret it in a year, I will not regret my stance, and will do whatever is in my power to fight him. There are too many lives at stake,

Finally, I want to speak to people who voted for him and call themselves friends. Please stop lying to yourself and to me. That is exactly what it is, a lie. This man, and his vice president have vowed to take away rights of gays, including the right (yes, the right) to marriage. Your support of this man goes in the face of everything I believe in, and I am not sure how you would do that to a friend. Let’s suppose that Clinton has said that we need to register all Jews. Yet, I still voted for her because she has other ideas I like. How could I, in good conscience, call friends who are Jewish, friends. That is a lie, we all know it. During slavery, would the slave call his slave master who supported the system that kept him a slave, a friend? Of course, not. The very idea makes no sense. You try to justify what you vote for this immoral man who threatens my life, and the rights of people in my life, and the man I love, is beyond me. You have every right to do what you choose, but understand, we are not friends.

At any rate, the fact is what it presents itself to be. To that end, expect me to be vocal as always, but more than that, expect me to be on the front lines, and give of myself financially, and time wise to organizations, and groups that will fight this man. In the end, people will remember those that are silent or consent by not standing up, as this person makes a direct threat to this country.

Trump is dangerous and we need to talk about it
ghandi95

Lately, there have been some comments made by people that they think some of what is going on with politics is too much.  That some people, meaning people like me, are saying things negative toward people who support trump, and there is no reason for it, after all this is just politics.  Maybe we should not have discussions about it, but if we do, then certainly you can keep that off of facebook and realize that people have different political opinions, and even though they may disagree with me, the opinions of others are just as valid.  I have been thinking about my thoughts in relation to history, and whether my opinion of those that support Trump is valid.  The bottom line is yes, because this is not about politics.  Politics is differing of opinion, and while the GOP says as their core belief that, “The Republican Party is fighting for a freer and stronger America where everyone has the opportunity to achieve the American Dream”, we can disagree with that, and that is politics.  What is happening with Trump is not politics, it is working to get a man that should not have power, out of our system.  I wonder if during the civil rights movement, I would have sat on the sideline and encouraged those who disagreed to be quiet and not discuss things.  I wonder if during WWII, I would have stood on the sideline while Hitler killed millions of people and said, be quiet, it is just politics, and we should not discuss things.  This is much more than politics, this is about a scary man, that like people who supported Hitler, people are supporting because they don’t quite understand how dangerous he is.  There are people who choose to be ignorant, and that would be fine, were it not impacting the rest of the country.  So, yes, I will continue to speak out, and yes, I will continue to call out those that support this man because I am convinced, they do not know what they are doing.

Trump is dangerous to this country because even though he has few actual policies, what he does say is scary and speaks volumes.  He has suggested that the press should not be as free, especially when they talk about him.  He has stated, “When people write incorrectly about you, and you can prove that they wrote incorrectly, we’re going to get them through the court system to change, and we’re going to get them to pay damages” (https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-politics/wp/2016/02/29/trump-taking-aim-at-the-press-vows-again-to-open-libel-laws/).  While on the surface, this does not seem bad, but the core is that he does not belief in protection of the press to print stories he does not agree with.  While he talks about core tenants of freedom, and even while the GOP wants a “freer” America, their leader is suggesting that the press, the watchdog of Democracy, is “too” free.  That is scary.  The idea that we have a candidate who thinks that the press is too free, worries me, and should worry others. This is a sign of a weak, but authoritative figure.  This should also be unacceptable to any American.

Trump also has allowed to let his ego take center stage, stating, “Nobody knows the system better than me, which is why I alone can fix it” (http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/elections/2016/07/21/donald-trump-republican-convention-acceptance-speech/87385658/).  That statement should send chills down the spine of everyone, and instead, the blind are left cheering.  What this says is the authoritative leader must have complete power, because the problems won’t get resolved unless he resolves them.  Hitler has said, “There must be no majority decisions, but only responsible persons, and the word ‘council’ must be restored to its original meaning. Surely every man will have advisers by his side, but the decision will be made by one man” (http://www.mondopolitico.com/library/meinkampf/v2c4.htm), and this is what worries me.  People fail to see what an authoritative, ego driven, person can do when people make the choice, and it is a choice, to be ignorant.  You can dislike Clinton for whatever reason.  I don’t really care, but the narrative that we have “two bad choices” is false.  The concern is that Trump is not a choice, and when a speaker gets booed for making the statement, “vote your conscious” there is a serious problem in the party.  At this point, I hope the problem is restricted to the GOP, but, I fear, others have been taken in.

So, please remember, this is about more than politics.  Suggesting that people not have discussions or do everything in their power to resist this authoritative person, is akin to suggesting people be quiet in time that our country was threatened by social ills, because it only politics.  There are times in history, when morality calls us to call out what is wrong and work with others in the country to change this.  Trump is a threat….we have an obligation to speak up, and speak loudly.  And those that support his, has chosen to support a dangerous, authoritative, ego driven person.

Them Bones

I was heistant about going to the house this morning.  I needed to go to see how things are progressing, and to feed fish who are trapped there.  It can be quite depressing to see the house gutted and all of your belongings in boxes in the garage.  Someone said to me yesterday, there is something invasive and dehumanizing about the whole process.  The idea that so many material things make a big part of identity is both troubling and the reality.  For me, the idea of seeing things was almost overwhelming and not something I wanted to do.  However, I am a big boy.  I do many things I do want to do.  I took a big breath and drove south to my house.

The first thing I noticed was the dump truck outside of my place, which was half full of material from the house as well as wet belongings. That was a bit concerning, but I understand necessary.  Stepping into the house, it felt empty, and not in a good way.  But, It was just a frame, and did not feel like my house, except the kitchen.  The floor is still very much in place, the appliances are all still good and it almost looks good exept for the walls.  The rest of the house was barren and lifeless.  I feed my fish and walked around feeling better than I thought I would feel, and have a sense that the work necessary can be accomplished.  Next week, we talk to contractors and start rebuilding.

The Water Cascade

I walked in the door yesterday after a long day at work, followed by the office Chritmas party.  I was excited that I was going to cook dinner for a friend.  I had just gone to Whole Foods (my favorite grocery store), and picked out what i wanted to cook.  I love walking to a counter, choosing what i want, and having the butcher cut it just for me.  it is one of the simple pleasures in life.  After I went to store and walked in the door is was past 6:30.  This was much later than what is a normal time for me to get home, and I can't help but wonder, if I had come home earlier, would I have caught the problem.

Walking in the door, I heard water running.  I was very confused, because I live alone, and it sounded like a shower running.  But, why would the shower be running?  Certainly, could not have left the shower running.  That would be impossible based on my routine.  I slowly walked up the stairs thinking that possibly my friend Ryan stopped by and was taking a shower.  He has surprised me with a vist before, so maybe that was him.  Yes, that would make sense.  But, his car was not outside, and I had talked to him recently.  Still, he could have been tricking me, parked far away, or flown down and taken an uber.

I slowly walked up the stairs toward the running water sound, half expecting to see a friend in the shower, or expecting to see a very clean robber who had broken in and decided they needed a shower.  Then there was the fatasy part of me that was thinking a hot guy who was showering waiting for me.  I did not expect what i saw.  Water was spraying from the intake valve on the toilet.  If this were a water ride, it would be expected, but I did not expect it from the bathroom.

Next, there was panic. What do i do, who do call.  After stoping the leak, I walked around in a daze.  Water was dripping from the ceiling, and part of the ceiling downstairs had colloased.  What i am I going to do.  I thought, brefly, just leave the house, move back to VA and let someone else deal with the mess.  Certainy that would be easier.  But after some thought I called my insurer, USAA, and the rep did a great job of bringing me down and telling me what the next steps would be, and the aproach to be taken.

1.  Water Abatement  - Within 2 hrs after getting home, a team was there to start the process,   The ripping out walls, carpet and celinings.  They proceeded to put in mutiple fans to try and dry the place out. This will take up to 3 days.

2.  Demolishion - They arrived this morning to start the process.  Riping out what was not taken out last night and taking my home down to the studs in many areas.

3. Remodal - Lot of work related to what needs to go back in place.

I am still very stressed, but crying is done, and getting to work on the process now.
